Hello, Beautiful! What’s the problem?

Hello, Beautiful!

“I LOVE your dress!”

“Oh! This old thing!”

“Girl! You look amazing! I love your shoes!”

“oh…uh..um, thanks. I tried to get them in *fill in the blank with a random color* but they didn’t have them…”

Why do we stand in front of the mirror primping and preening to look just right and then when someone points out what’s RIGHT (rather than our flaws and shortcomings) we become uncomfortable and try to steer the conversation to what we find wrong with ourselves or the things we possess. Girl! would you just stop it. If you look good…then OWN it! If you need a quick boost, just listen to Nina Simone sing, “Feeling Good“. Ok, let me help you out….

[intro]

Birds flying high, you know how I feel

Sun in the sky, you know how I feel

Breeze driftin’ on by, you know how I feel

[refrain]

It’s a new dawn

It’s a new day

It’s a new life for me, yeah

It’s a new dawn

It’s a new day

It’s a new life for me, ooh

And I’m feeling good

HOW TO ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS

Be grateful when people have nice things to say to you. We know how mean, ugly, and downright mean people can be in this world, so enjoy hearing kind words, especially when its directed at you.

TIPenjoy the moment, smile, thank them, and then move forward with my day

Everyone has an opinion to give, and I understand that the compliments I receive today may be gone tomorrow. Remain humble and grounded, regardless of the many compliments you might receive.

You can also accept criticism with composure. Each critique you receive is a chance to learn something so consider the advice you are offered, think about it, and choose to use the information or to reject it.

Snide remarks can be a little painful to hear, but just know that unkind people are in pain and struggling. Try to avoid taking perceived attacks or offensive comments personally. Allow them to roll off your back without giving them a second thought.

TIP: Receive compliments graciously and give them generously!

Give props to your sisters-from-another-mister! Show the love!

Making others smile and feel good about themselves will make you feel better about yourself as well.

Today,  accept any compliments you receive with a smile and gratitude. You deserve to enjoy any compliments that come your way.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. Why do I sometimes find it challenging to accept compliments?

  2. What are my five greatest qualities?

  3. When have I felt uncomfortable receiving a compliment? Why?
